This is my first critique. This image caught my eye because of the sense of action and the bright colors and explosions coming from behind the subject. Overall, I think this is a great rendition of Superman and I would encourage the artist to keep working in this direction. What I love about this image is it's overall composition (with superman about to punch out of the frame), the backlighting, coloring and the explosive detail in the foreground. However, there are some areas in regards to technique and expressive details that could be improved upon. I will start with the face. The level of detail on this face really helps sell the image. To me, however, the facial expression doesn't mesh with the sense of action taking place here. In this image, the face looks stoic and slightly menacing but entirely too composed considering he is being shot at with what looks like laser beams...I know it's superman and all but the muscles of his face should reveal some struggle and exertion in a tense moment like this. I would change the way his hair appears and would sweep it backwards like when you are traveling fast down the road with the top down in order to show a sense of speed in his movements. The forms of the hands are convincing enough but they do not have the same level of detail and texture as the face does. Maybe you could add some hair to his knuckles or texture the skin a bit more to really make it pop. Overall, I like this image I just think with a little more care and effort it could be made downright epic.
